Amalorpavanathan Yagulasamy

More than Twenty-five years of making systems work.
And two books in Tamil and English.

By profession I build and automate software — that a state department runs on for a decade. By inclination I write in Tamil and English: couplets of two lines, and one book about the body.

The books About me

What I do

Software and automation

Technical Manager at Protech Solutions for twenty-five years, and on South Carolina’s child support system, SC PACSS, since 2015. Agile practice applied to projects large enough that the process matters more than the tooling.

Writing in Tamil

The Puthukural — more than 550 new couplets in the two-line form Valluvar left us, across three volumes. Each one is a single idea that has to survive being said twice.

Health, by the cycle

Nila Nalam is a thirty-day health method built on the sun’s daily rhythm and the moon’s cycle, drawing on Ayurveda, Siddha medicine, hormone science — and, improbably, on Agile.

A little more

I came to writing about health the ordinary way: by getting ill. Over about fifteen years I kept notes — what I read, what I tried, what my body actually did in response. I turned a habit into a project.

The structure came from work. In 2015 my team began a project three large companies had failed to finish over twenty-five years. We delivered it in three, in cycles, a piece at a time, and it has been in service in South Carolina since 2018 — several hundred thousand children a year pass through it. The thing that made the difference was not cleverness. It was working in short cycles, looking back honestly at the end of each one, and starting the next. That idea is the spine of Nila Nalam.

I am not a doctor and not a nutritionist. Everything in the health book is something I tested on myself over more than ten years. Your body is not mine. Talk to your own doctor before you change anything.

I also keep a Tamil blog, தஞ்சை நாடோடி, where the shorter things go.
